Photography day 2: What’s in it?

August 31, 2010  |  Inspiration, Photography, Streetstyle  |  No Comments  |

Ever went to a photography course? Or maybe you make pictures yourself all day for fun? Or maybe you’re doing the same thing as I’m doing: attending fashion school with a high tendency to hate sewing but really like clothes, fantasy and pretty young ladies walking up and down the hallway? Good, because the next few days I’m writing about a minor I’m doing about photography & film, so this is something for you.

As a result of day 1, we picked 4 pictures from the previous day photographing which we had to bring in this morning. The images had associations with each other in terms of colour, shape, meaning or contrast and obviously because somehow you were intrigued by them. Today we had to search for 9 images in fashion magazines and ones not-related to fashion that resembled to one of the other 4 each (still get it?). Fortunately today I didn’t have to stand in line, I was in the card board store at 9 AM sharp (wow, since when was that?) and I kind of found quite a good set of pictures that fitted the 4 I had.. Yet.. now we have to pick one square, with 1 original picture of day 1 in it, go into town (or anywhere) and make 9 other pictures that would fit them and present them tomorrow. Ok I lost track of it myself but anyway, which of the 4 squares inspire you? I’m not done thinking about it yet! So please help me and give a shout.

Square 1, discovery, admiration, collection, reflection, mysterious

Square 2: wastage, connection, reflection, outline, contrast, tenderness

Square 3: spontaneously, curiosity, fine lines, structure, layering, covering

Square 4, Square 4: young, dynamic, sibling hood, virginity, pure, innocence, impatient, contrast, admire

Photoday 1: Amsterdam

Photoday 1: Amsterdam

As my new photography & film semester started today, we were asked to make pictures in Amsterdam, select 25 of them and print them in 3 hours. So then you think you have enough time, so you go into the city, take some shots… Some other ones.. on some different locations of course. So you’re not satisfied, and you take loads of others, until you find out you have only one hour to print them..

And you don’t want to go back to class having them print on normal paper, so you go to the one-hour photo service! Right, where you find out that 5 people in front of you REALLY don’t know how to use a photo machine with USB stick. Great. So instead of that, you go to the normal printer, where you pay 40 euro’s for 25 A4 pages with 3 pictures. Ouch. Finally at school, I could spread them all out and cut them into squares of 10 x 10 cm. After that I had to pick 4 of them which I liked most, on a ‘gut feeling’. This would be my inspiration for the coming days in which I’m to tell a fashion story through images… Sounds simple. I think I’ve spend another 4 hours that day selecting them? I’m like a turtle. Anyway, I didn’t want to keep them to myself, so here they are. Which one of those do you like?
