ALL IS JEWELLISH

ALL IS JEWELLISH

March 24, 2011  |  Fashion, Inspiration, Jewellery, Limited Edition, News  |

What do you do if you can turn anything you touch into a jewel? You create the most bizarre and fancy looking objects into a want-have piece for next season, at least, that’s what Hanna does. A 25 year old Parisienne, who started her own jewellery brand called Hirschell.

I think the accessories are a glimpse of what we can expect from her in the future: an eclectic mix of wonderful materials put together in fine shades of color and texture. They remind me of a more unconventional way of craftsmanship than the traditional jewellery; perfect for your wardrobe if you want to upgrade your outfit with something special. Let me introduce Hanna:

When did you start making the jewellery?

I became interested in jewels 7 years ago. I discovered the use of latex a this time and started to experiment with it making bracelets. It wasn’t enough resistant and it aged badly so I decided to work with resin and that’s where I really started making jewels.

What kind of education did you do?

I first did an multi-disciplinary art school in Lyon then I moved to Paris to enter Duperré (Paris fashion school). After my first diploma (BTS) i ended my studies with a bachelor (License professionelle) in fashion design where I had the chance to develop my first collection as a jewel creator : “Flashing Lights”
How many collections do you produce a year?

I did 2 collections since I started a year ago. It’s the rythm I’d like to keep. I like also the idea of having “mini-collections” according to the opportunities or my vibe of the moment.

What are the materials you use?

I like using materials and technologies that are not supposed to be used in jewellery. I use a lot of copper, a metal with industrial connotations, circuit board, pyrite stones and a lot of different chains

What is your source of inspiration for the next collection?

My next collection will be called “Meteor”, obvious reference to meteorites which fascinate me. I became infatuated by Pyrite stones, its raw aspect  which totally breaks with the very geometrical collection “Odissey”.

Do you have other jobs aside this project or is it a full-time job?

It’s hard to be a young independant. My brand Hirschell takes me a lot of time because I’m alone in charge of the creation, the production plus all the administrative work. Never the less I occasionally apply for freelance work and I also do poor time jobs. I love this diversity in my work and I got a lot of ideas beyond my collections like customising a car.

When I grow up I want to become a..

independant woman! Haha.
When I grow up I want to be self-sufficient, live from my jewels. I have the opportunity I’d love to travel more, see what others creators are doing, learn more techniques.
