David Lynch Video Competition

David Lynch Video Competition

So, we knew the guy was versatile, director of Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Inland Empire a.o., but that he’d also grab his mic to sing us a song I didn’t expect. He’s even so nice to let US make his two new music video’s! Sounds good if you ask me.

But to impress him won’t be easy, you better start sketching your storyboard, contestants can upload their video until the 20th of December at genero.tv where you can also join in the competition to make the new video of Royksopp (one of my favorites!). Phew.

His double single Good Day Today is a good mixture of synthesizing sounds and uptown beats, something quite trendy for a 64 year old. I like this guy! I know is a much slower and dark, yet still electronic version. You can listen to the songs and buy them exclusively on Itunes to get your video going, click here to listen or purchase.

Dazed Digital asked David Lynch why he chose music over film this time and he reacted:

” Music does talk to us in deep places and it can stir things, as we all know, and some of it really stirs. It’s just real beautiful. I just saw this video of Pink Floyd singing ‘Comfortably Numb’ in an arena. It was just such an incredible production and it was just so thrilling to see this thing. “

As inspiration to all students making video’s:

” I fall in love with ideas and then I try to transfer those as best as possible to a medium. That’s the whole thing, and I always feel that if a person is true to the ideas and in love with them that maybe there’s a good chance that some people will feel the same thing… if you do a good job. “

Transferring ideas is always the challenge, especially in fashion where things can be way more abstract. Want to read the whole interview? Click here.

Fashion Film ‘The Elbow Room’

November 22, 2010  |  Competition, Fashion Film, Inspiration, Minor Visual Culture  |  No Comments  |

Finally! The thinking, shooting and editing is done! The last week has been very hectic, but very much fun, creating a short fashion film with 5 fellow students in one week.

The Elbow Room literally means a room or space in which you move freely. The concept is based on the theory of Tabula Rasa, which goes back to Aristotle and John Locke, describing a state of mind when you are born as a ‘clean slate’. During life you get more and more experiences and influences that can push you away from the real ‘me’.

The concept had to be build on the theme ‘freedom’ and will be sent to the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam). This was our very first film to shoot and many things have to be improved (especially the acting and lightning!). I will upload the pictures accompanied by the movie shortly. For now enjoy!
