Last night, during the fourth edition of the DFW, Iris van Herpen, known for her sculptural, futuristic collections, went home with no less than 3 awards.
Sjaak Hullekes, the winner of last year, started the show, followed by the other 5 nominees Marcha Hüskes, Conny Groenewegen, Iris van Herpen, Bas Kosters and Claes Iversen each showing an introduction movie and their spring collections, except from Bas who made an entire collection just for this show.
Iris van Herpen won the Mercedes Benz Fashion Award worth 25.000 euro and a chance to show her collection on the Berlin Fashion Week, but that was not all. Also the Dutch Incubator Ward and the Dutch Fashion Accessory Award went to Iris, a chance for her to collaborate with Sacha Shoes to design a shoe collection.
‘ This designer knows how to show the kind of pure, contemporary creativeness that can be translated in couture and everything that derives from it.‘ according to the judges.
The buzz is gone now McQueen settled with the Hells Angels over the fact that they used the Hells Angels logo, their trademark, into the new collection. The motorcycle gang sued Alexander McQueen’s team for using the logo in prints on dresses, rings, bags and shawls, without permission.
Alexander McQueen, Saks and Zappos agreed to get the goods off the shelves and offline from the web shop. All the sold goods will be called back and destroyed. Easier said than done since no customer is waiting for their precious clothing to be ripped and teared into shreds. The Hells Angels also demanded a financial compensation, which the court didn’t decide on yet. So don’t copy in class now, you might end up in court later.
